WINDHOEK, 20 MAY – National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) presidential aspirant and Okakarara Constituency Councillor, Vetaruhe Kandorozu said his preoccupation will be addressing issues of national concern rather than petty issues, if he emerges victorious at the party’s elective congress on Saturday.
Kandorozu made these remarks when he laid bare his strategic plan during Team 100 per cent VK’s final star rally in the capital on Sunday.
“We are not going to insult any of our opponents, neither use any derogatory language or defamatory statement and finally, we must play the ball not the man and only focus on where our party is going,” said Kandorozu.
Team 100 per cent VK led by Kandorozu as its presidential candidate is one of the two factions that will contest for leadership positions at the party’s elective congress on 25 and 26 May.
Kandorozu’s chief focus is to steer the party to “greater heights” and “make it bigger and visible to all 14 regions across Namibia”.
He said his immediate objective is to topple the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) as Namibia’s official opposition party in 2019 and eventually take over Government in the subsequent election, if elected as party president.
This will be achieved through robustly tackling the issues that confront ordinary Namibians including corruption, youth unemployment, land, plight of students and housing, among others.
“Our target groups are the cleaners, labourers, farmworkers, domestic workers, students, SMEs, the blue-collar workers and those in the non-managerial positions,” Kandorozu said.
If given the mandate to lead Nudo, Kandorozu promised to make it a member-centred entity, which he aims to achieve through participatory approaches.
“The voiceless group eventually found representation through electing all eight members on the Team 100 per cent VK,” he said.
At party level, Kandorozu vowed to introduce initiatives to economically and socially advance paid-up Nudo members.
“If your child needs tuition fees and you are a paid-up member, we will assist you. Our party will have [a] pro-poor approach in order to address the plight of our poor people,” he said.
He further said his campaign trail was a resounding success and expressed confidence about emerging as victor at congress against Utjiua Miunjangue.
Miunjangue is Team Nudo’s presidential candidate. She is deputised by Aminuis Constituency Councillor, Peter Kazongominja as the vice president candidate while Windhoek Councillor, Joseph Kauandenge is the team’s candidate for the secretary general position.
On the other end, Team 100 per cent VK has Jekura Kavari as vice president candidate while current secretary general, Meundju Jahanika will try to retain his post.
