GOBABIS, 30 APR – Okakarara Constituency Councillor, Vetaruhe Kandorozu, who is leading a campaign for Nudo presidency, urged all party members to remain united despite supporting different candidates.
Kandorozu is pitted against another party veteran, Utjiua Muinjangwe, who heads the party’s women’s league, for the same position and each has a slate of running mates to complete the party’s top executive positions at the third national congress to be held between 25 and 27 May 2018 in Windhoek.
Addressing a party gathering of elective congress delegates here on Saturday, Kandorozu urged members supporting his presidency to conduct the campaign in a transparent, respectful and mature manner, free of insult and name-calling.
He said delegates should always bear in mind that they belong to the same party and as such should strive to put party interests first before those of their campaign teams.
“We must run a clean campaign and keep in mind that we all belong to the same Nudo. Name-calling and insults should not be tolerated in this camp at all,” he said.
The Nudo presidential hopeful told party delegates that his team will strive to bring Nudo closer to the people by engaging them on a regular basis and not only before elections.
As part of his promises, contained in his team’s campaign manifesto, Kandorozu promised to increase women and youth representation in all decision making structures of the party.
The team also intends to prioritise rural industrialisation by creating special incentives to attract the manufacturing sector in setting up shop in rural settings to avoid urbanisation.
“We shall recommend to the third national congress in accordance with the party constitution to resolve the appointment of the secretary-general (SG) on a full-time basis at the party head office,” he said.
Kandorozu currently serves as party deputy SG, under Meundju Jahanika.
Jahanika is vying to retain his position on a ‘Team 100% VK’ ticket, as Kandorozu’s campaign is known.
Lesley Kauandara is running for the deputy SG portfolio, while Jekura Kavari intends to occupy the deputy president position.
Other party members on ‘Team 100% VK’ are Vehonga Ketjijere and Gretchen Boois, vying for national treasurer and deputy national treasurer positions, respectively.
Likius Mupya and Juda Hangero are also both respectively campaigning for the national chairperson and deputy national chairperson positions.
