HANOI, Dec. 16 — Authorities in Vietnam’s southern hub of Ho Chi Minh City have proposed installing about 20,000 battery swap cabinets for electric motorbikes on sidewalks, Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday.
The proposal, put forward by two local companies, was submitted to the municipal People’s Committee by the city’s Department of Construction.
Under the plan, battery swap cabinets with 6 to 12 slots and a capacity of 6 to 12 kW each will be installed next to existing street lighting poles, bus shelters and boundary walls of hospitals, schools, museums and administrative buildings, without affecting nearby residential areas.
Ho Chi Minh City currently has around 100,000 electric motorbikes, 300 fast-charging stations and about 50 battery swap locations for electric motorbikes.
According to the roadmap, by 2030, the city is expected to have around 1.2 million electric motorbikes and will need to develop over 25,000 public charging stations and battery swap cabinets to meet demand. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
