Oshakati, Aug. 8 — The Ministry of Mines and Energy has officially introduced the establishment of the Implementation Authority Office as a pivotal component of the Green Hydrogen (GH2) Namibia Program.
Designed to leverage funding from development partners and, if required, the Namibian Government, this Program aims to amplify the Ministry’s endeavors in realizing the objectives set forth in the Namibian Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy.
Overseeing this crucial initiative for a period of five years will be James Mnyupe, the appointed Green Hydrogen Commissioner. Reporting directly to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Mnyupe will play a central role in assembling the requisite team to steer the Program’s trajectory toward success over the ensuing months. Notably, Mnyupe will continue to fulfill his role as the Economic Advisor to the President of the Republic of Namibia.
In a momentous event that transpired in November 2022, Tom Alweendo formally introduced Namibia’s Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy. This comprehensive Strategy aligns with the directives of the Economic Advancement Pillar within the Harambee Prosperity Plan II.
The Strategy’s primary aim is to delve into the prospects presented by the Green Hydrogen and Ammonia industries, culminating in the formulation of an apt Country Strategy. Featuring a comprehensive 12-point plan, the Strategy outlines a timeline for execution, with March 2025 as the target date. The inaugural step in this strategic journey involved the establishment of an Implementation Authority Office, a critical entity designed to provide support to the Ministry of Mines and Energy in executing the Strategy’s mandates.- Namibia Daily News
