Exhibitors appreciative of the Swakop summer fair
SWAKOPMUND, 22 DEC– Exhibitors at the Swakopmund Summer Holiday Fair have expressed appreciation for the platform to showcase their products during the festive season.
The holiday fair, which commenced on Friday at the town’s Palm Tree Park, is aimed at bringing together local vendors and those from other towns to showcase their products such as food, ornaments and clothing.
Jesaya !Gawiseb from Otjiwarongo, who makes and sells handmade toys and ornamental cars made from wood pallets, is exhibiting at the fair for the second time and said opportunities like these are hard to come by in his home town.
“I sell my products here and there back in Otjiwarongo but business is not really good when you just sell on the streets compared to when you showcase it at fairs like these and showgrounds,” !Gawiseb said.
He added that although stands at these fairs are not very affordable most of the time, they are worth it because they present a lot of exposure.
Swakopmund Mayor, Paulina Nashilundo during the official opening of the fair called for the gift of giving to the needy, especially during the festive season.
“Giving the gift of time to help others is also one of the best ways to truly express the spirit of the season; whether that is making time to have a cup of tea with an elderly or helping put up a tree for a neighbour who is unwell,” Nashilundo noted.
The mayor also encouraged people to support and buy local products and use them as gifts for their loved ones as they would have more significance when they are locally produced.
She advised Swakopmunders and visitors alike to take extra caution during the festive season to save lives.
The mayor, during the same event, also lit the town’s Christmas tree.
The summer fair had a total of 76 stands, showcasing a variety of food and beverages, ornaments, clothing and gadgets and is expected to end on Sunday. – NAMPA
