Windhoek, 25 July. An Angolan national, identified as 36-year-old Alfredo Venalavo, allegedly consumed petrol and later hanged himself following a heated argument with his girlfriend on Sunday at Farm Meidelin in Grootfontein.
According to Otjozondjupa police spokesperson Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the altercation between the deceased and his girlfriend occurred on Saturday during the evening hours. Tragically, the body was only discovered the following day.
The events leading up to the heartbreaking incident unfolded when the girlfriend and the deceased decided to sleep in separate rooms to cool down during the disagreement.
“The family of the deceased, along with the girlfriend, went to the deceased’s room to resolve the misunderstanding, but he was not found there,” Mbeha stated.
It was alleged that the deceased confided in one of his nephews about his intention to end his life.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that he drank petrol and fled into the bush, where he hanged himself using a makeshift rope from a palm tree,” she added.
In a tragic twist, the deceased left behind a suicide note written in Oshikwanyama. However, the handwriting was unclear, making it difficult to determine the exact message he wanted to convey.
The body was subsequently transported to Otjiwarongo for a postmortem examination.
The police are currently conducting further investigations into this heart-wrenching incident.
