OTJIWARONGO, 16 JUN – A 45-year-old woman on Friday was remanded in custody at Okahandja after she was arrested on Thursday and charged for possession of three unlicensed hunting rifles and a variety of ammunition.
Sarah Victoria Horsthemke was arrested at Farm Eahero in the Hochfeld district by the police after a tipoff that she kept unlicensed hunting rifles, allegedly acquired from her ex-husband who lives in Zimbabwe.
Hochfeld is situated approximately 140 kilometres north-east of Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha confirmed the arrest of Horsthemke to Nampa in an interview on Saturday.
Mbeha said an import permit of the firearms in possession of Horsthemke was found at the farm, but it expired in 2013 about three months after her husband had brought them to Namibia from Zimbabwe.
Mbeha said the normal procedure was then supposed to have been followed by her to apply for licenses of the firearms.
The Hochfeld police further charged her for bigamy after she allegedly married two different men – one in Windhoek in 2011 and another in 2016 in Swakopmund, before dissolving her first marriage she entered into in 2007.
Horsthemke is of Germany origin.
Her case was postponed by the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court to 25 July 2018 for further police investigations.
