Katima Mulilo, 14 August – The Hawks, in collaboration with the Home Affairs Counter-Corruption and Security Unit, have carried out a sting operation resulting in the arrest of 67 foreign nationals in Johannesburg. The operation, conducted on Saturday night, aimed to address issues related to undocumented foreign individuals residing in the country.
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi highlighted that some of the foreigners provide false information, including booking non-existent hotels, in order to secure a place in South Africa. “They are coming to South Africa to do what and where, that’s a big question,” said Motsoaledi. He emphasized the need to address the presence of undocumented individuals who could potentially engage in illegal activities.
Motsoaledi instructed authorities to send those arrested back to their home country. Police Minister Bheki Cele also expressed concern over the impact of undocumented foreign nationals on crime-fighting efforts.
