WINDHOEK, 29 APR – The Namibian Senior Rugby team, the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias lost 73-20 against the Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria, South Africa on Saturday in the second round match of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge.
The Bulls were leading 26-13 at halftime after scoring only three tries of which two were converted, while the Welwitschias scored a converted try and two penalties in the first half.
In the second half, the Bulls upped the tempo and scored eight more tries while the Welwitschias scored and converted only one try.
In total, the Bulls ran in 11 tries, nine of which were converted, while the Namibians could manage just two tries, two conversions and two penalties.
The Bulls lost their opening match 36-18 to the Pumas last week, while the Welwitschias were also coming from a 39-7 loss against the Hino Valke at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek in their first game of this year’s competition.
After the two losses, the Welwitschias are now bottom of the five-team log with zero points while the Pumas top the log with nine points followed by the Vodacom Bulls on five points. Hino Valke sit third on five points as well, while the Golden Lions are on fourth position with one point.
The Welwitschias will play the Golden Lions on 05 May at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek in their next fixture.
The Blue Bulls tries were scored by Corniel Els, Ruben van Heerden, Andell Loubser (2), JT Jackson (2), Earll Douwrie, Jan-Henning Campher, Andre Warner, and Duncan Matthews (2). The nine conversions came through Douwrie.
The tries for the Welwitschias were scored by AJ de Klerk and Jan Adriaan Booysen and the conversions by Eugene Jantjies and Pieter Steenkamp. The latter also slotted in two penalties.
