MOGADISHU, Oct. 14 — Somali military court on Sunday executed an al-Shabab militant who masterminded the October deadly attack in 2017 that left about 587 people dead and 316 others injured.
Court Prosecutor Mumin Hussein Abdulahi told reporters that the court found the suspect guilty of coordinating the deadliest attack in Mogadishu truck bombing in October last year.
The militant was driving one of the two cars used to carry out the bomb attacks on that day and the security forces arrested him on the same day, according to Abdulahi.
The execution came a year as the country held nationwide memorial events to mark the first anniversary of the deadliest bombing that devastated the Somali capital.
A massive car bomb detonated outside the entrance to a hotel in the city’s K5 junction, which is home to government offices, hotels and restaurants. Later in the day, a second bombing was reported in the city’s Madina district. – XINHUA
