Six commit suicide

WINDHOEK, 25 SEP – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) recorded six new cases of suicide in the Kunene, Oshana, Khomas and Kavango East regions.
Nampol’s Head of Public Relations, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said in a crime report issued on Monday, that a farmworker was found hanging from a tree on Friday at farm Elaandslaagte in Kamanjab in Kunene at about 11h00.
The 37-year-old deceased, whose next of kin have not yet been informed, is said to be an Angolan national.
Shikwambi said the deceased was left at the farm by his co-workers when they went to herd goats and found his body when they returned.
In the Kavango East Region at Omega 1 residential area, the lifeless body of Nyambe Songa, 22, was found hanging from a tree five kilometres from his house on Thursday at around 13h00.
In the Khomas Region, the body of Gift Kahipuru, 28, was found hanging from the roof of his shack at about 23h45 in Otjomuise on Saturday. The body was discovered by a neighbour who alerted the police.
Again in Otjomuise, the body of another young man was found hanging from the roof of an outside room in Tokyo Street on Saturday around 23h15.
The deceased, identified as Philip Thomas, 21, was discovered by neighbours.
Meanwhile, Jan Haimbondi, 22, was found hanging from a tree on Sunday at 04h00 in Ongwediva, Oshana Region.
The body of 28-year-old Jonas Nadipite Amunyela from Okangwena near Ondangwa in the Oshana Region, was found outside a corrugated zinc house on Sunday morning.
The deceased, who was employed as a security guard at the Otamanzi Security Company, allegedly killed himself with a service firearm.
No suicide notes were found in the incidents and the next of kin of the Namibian nationals were notified of their deaths.
