WINDHOEK, July 25 – Simon Petrus(26) believes Namibia has talent that needs to be nurtured and supported financially.
Petrus invented a cellphone that can operate without a sim card and he is seeking investors to make the project big.
He invented the phone in 2016 but it ended there.
“I started this project because I come from a town that has low network coverage and this motivated me to come up with a phone that needs no network to operate,” he said.
Petrus only got support from his science teacher and his unemployed mother to start up this project.
“Since I was in Grade 11 when I started this project the Erongo Marine was the only company that helped me further my studies at the Vocational Training Centre in Windhoek after I finished my secondary education.
“I have been unemployed and still looking for possible investors to make my project a reality,” Petrus added.
He added that potential investors sometimes called him and promised to invest but went quiet after a while.
Petrus lives with his single mother and nine siblings in Windhoek.
“My biggest challenge is finding investors or even just employment so that I can help out my mother around at home” Petrus added.
