WINDHOEK, 30 APR – A shack fire incident in Katutura on Sunday night claimed the life of a 1-year-old child.
Namibian Police Force Head of Media Relations, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the incident to Nampa on Monday, saying the deceased was identified as Matjiua Kanguatjivi.
The incident happened around 22h00 in Richard Tjiramba Street, she said.
The 16-month old victim is said to have succumbed to third degree burns, while a 3-year-old escaped from the burning shack.
The mother of the children was reportedly not at home when the shack caught fire and was taken to the hospital to be treated for shock after hearing the news.
The cause of the fire is still to be determined through an ongoing police investigation.
