REHOBOTH, 25 SEP – The hunt for the Rehoboth Town Council (RTC) chief executive officer continues (CEO), two months after Christoph |Uirab was shown the door following his notice to the municipality of his intention to resign in November this year.
|Uirab tendered his resignation to the council on 20 June, effective end of November. However, the council responded on 13 July informing him they accept his resignation with 30 days’ notice, starting the day he handed in his resignation.
Upon enquiry Tuesday, representative of the Urban and Rural minister for the RTC, Nathalia |Gôagoses told Nampa the post has been advertised and closed on Monday, adding they are planning to have the CEO appointed by 01 November.
“The applications for the CEO post closed on Monday and we have a grace period until Friday for those people that mailed their applications. Once we are done with the sorting and shortlisting, we will conduct the interviews to appoint a CEO to take charge of the office,” she noted.
|Gôagoses further said she requested a suitable person to take charge of the office on a temporary basis until the vacancy of the CEO has been filled.
“I have asked the line ministry to second someone from a well-managed municipality to assist us as without the CEO, we have been struggling. We had the technical department head in an acting capacity, but his department was also demanding.”
A reliable source told Nampa that Mariental Municipality CEO, Paul Nghiwilepo is among the favourites to be seconded to take charge in the temporary capacity.
|Gôagoses, however, did not confirm or deny that Nghiwelepo would be seconded and said she requested for three names of suitable candidates.
Contacted for comment, Nghiwilepo said a request came for him to assist, but they are still “working on it”.
Rehoboth has been without a council since March this year, after Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Peya Mushelenga suspended the entire town council following reports of infighting and allegations of maladministration.
Chairperson of the management committee, Winston |Uirab told Nampa on enquiry recently investigations into the reports and allegations are still underway.
