MADRID, June 18 — Real Madrid on Tuesday presented 18-year-old Brazilian forward Rodrygo Goes to fans at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The youngster was actually signed a year ago, but spent last season on loan in Brazil in order for him to continue gaining experience.
It is not certain whether he will have a place in the Madrid squad this season after the arrival of players such as Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic this summer, but speaking to the press, the youngster showed confidence.
When asked about possible Real Madrid interest for PSG’s Brazilian forward Neymar Jr and whether he would like to be the ‘Neymar of Real Madrid’, Rodrygo said he wanted “to be the Rodrygo of Real Madrid.”
“I’m excited to train with the player we have here, like Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema and it’ll be exciting to train with Vinicius (Junior) again,” he said, speaking about the other young Brazilian winger at Real Madrid.
“We’re two young Brazilian players with similar characteristics, although there’s no need to make comparisons,” he commented, before describing himself as “a quick forward who likes to score goals and to dribble.”
He admitted he hadn’t spoken to Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, but said he was “excited” to work with the Frenchman, although he didn’t rule out spending some time with Real Madrid’s B-team (Real Madrid Castilla)
“I’ll leave that up to the club,” said Rodrygo. – XINHUA
