Outjo public prosecutor assualt case withdrawn

OTJIWARONGO, 09 JUL – A case in which a Public Prosecutor stands accused of grievous bodily harm and assault against a pregnant woman at Outjo was on Sunday withdrawn.
The public prosecutor, 37, and his 19-year-old male relative, were arrested on Saturday after a 36-year-old woman laid charges of assault and grievous bodily harm against the two suspects.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Monday confirmed the withdrawal of the case which was registered under CR 08/07/2018 at Outjo Police Station.
“Yes that case was withdrawn on Sunday by the complainant herself and the two suspects were then released from the police custody that same Sunday,” Mbeha said.
The Warrant Officer added that the reason given to the police for the withdrawal of the case was that the two suspects and complaint are close relatives and that she had already forgiven them for the incident.
Mbeha on Saturday told this news agency that the woman, who is four months pregnant, was attacked at about 02h30 in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Jack Francois Street near the Etoshapoort Junior Secondary School at Outjo.
The victim was allegedly kicked in the stomach and punched in the face by the two suspects, which led to her losing two teeth, said Mbeha.
