Head-on collision victims identified

REHOBOTH, 22 JUL  – The three victims in a fatal head-on collision between a minibus and a sedan on Friday evening on the Kalkrand-Mariental road have been identified.
Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay, crime investigations coordinator for the Namibian Police Force in the Hardap Region told Nampa on Saturday the deceased have been identified as Johan Forbes, 52, the driver of the sedan and his passenger, Johannes Nangolo, 34, an employee of NaTIS at Lüderitz, while the 34-year-old passenger in the minibus who died was identified as Fransisco Fabian Kaptein.
“It is alleged that a white Audi with a personalised registration plate, Forby NA, driven by Forbes, was travelling from Lüderitz to Windhoek and allegedly moved from its lane into the lane of the oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a white Toyota Quantum minibus with registration number N1141L that was heading southwards with 12 passengers on board,” Clay said.
He said the minibus was driven by a male driver still to be identified as he was rushed to the hospital.
“Four people in the Audi were trapped and had to be removed with the vehicle cut into pieces with the ‘Jaws of life’, with the assistance of the Kalkrand Village Council and Mariental Municipality,” Clay noted.
He said the remaining passengers sustained mild to serious injuries, with some being transported to the Mariental State Hospital.
