Hardap schools to take part in nationwide clean-up campaign

REHOBOTH, 19 MAY  – All the schools in Hardap Region will be part of the cleaning on 22 and 23 May as part of the nationwide clean-up campaign slated for 25 May next Friday.
President Hage Geingob ordered a national mass clean-up campaign earlier this year and announced 25 May 2018 as the official clean-up date.
Upon enquiry on Thursday Director of Education Mzingisi Gqwede said a circular was sent out to all the school principals in the region and stated that all schools will be part of a clean-up day on the 22 and 23 May to allow some learners that may travel for the home weekend to be part of the campaign.
Gqwede said it was observed with great disappointment that some schools are dirty and untidy with overgrown grass and weeds all over their grounds.
“In some cases, classes, libraries and laboratories are also untidy and dirty. Most teachers and learners will like to be associated with a clean school environment as it is believed to have an influence in shaping their attitudes and personal development,” Gqwede said.
He further said it is true that the environment of a school always demonstrates symptomatic attitude of the school administrators towards their institutional objectives.
“Internal cleaning policy would allow learners and staff to take joint action and responsibility of a clean and tidy environment. That would also serve to inspire environmental consciousness to create a better world for all to live in,” he remarked.
He urged all principals and schools to draw up an internal cleaning policies and forward them to the office of the inspector of education who will in turn forward them to the deputy director of education.
The Hardap clean-up campaign, which is a precursor to the national campaign, kicked off in Maltahöhe and has so far also covered Gibeon, Kriess, Gochas, Aranos and Stampriet. The clean-up at Hoachanas took place on Friday, followed by Klein-Aub (Saturday), Mariental (Monday), Kalkrand (23 May) and Rehoboth (25 May).
