RUNDU, 24 SEP – The Government Stores in Rundu was broken into last Thursday after the Government Garage had a successful auction where various items were sold.
Confirming the incident to Nampa on Monday, Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for Kavango East, Deputy Commissioner Bonifasius Kanyetu said the suspects broke the entrance door of the storeroom, “went inside and after not finding anything interesting to steal, left massive damage on the door.”
He said a case of housebreaking with intent to commit an offence unknown to the State was opened.
The incident happened around 01h00 and the suspects are still at large.
The Government Stores’ head of department, Lukas Makayi told this agency on Friday that the burglars gained entry into the premises after cutting the fence.
“They were probably after the money raised from the auction but fortunately, they did not get the money as it is not kept on the premises, we bank the money after every auction,” Makayi said.
He added that the security guards who were on duty were asleep when the incident happened and a complaint of negligence will thus be lodged with the security company. – NAMPA
