REHOBOTH, 03JUL – Dates Eleven Football Club from Naute Dam near Keetmanshoop won the ||Kharas Second Division Inland Stream over the weekend with two matches to spare after winning their matches against Real Fighters and Thistles.
The run-away leaders defeated Real Fighters 1-0 via a goal by Edgard Rooi on Saturday and hammered Thistles 5-0 on Sunday through goals by Rooi, Benedictus Haikali and Gregory April and a brace by Victor Pinnaar.
Dates Eleven lead the log with 45 points after 16 matches, with nearest challengers Real Fighters in second spot with 32 points, having played 15 matches.
Dates Eleven coach, Andre Wimmerth on Monday told Nampa their hard work and determination paid off.
“We started planning for the league last year by being part of every tournament in the Hardap and ||Kharas regions. We used our own players and exposed them to different playing styles and competitions. Discipline, commitment and planning all played a crucial part in our success,” he said.
Wimmerth said although they won the league, the team is still a work in progress.
“We mostly have Under-17 and 20 players who we are building for the future, with captain Pinnaar being one of the leaders on the field, along with Merril Jossop and Bennie Charly,” he said.
Dates Eleven only lost once against Brazilie. They scored 40 goals and conceded only seven.
They will play in a play-off final against the winners of the Coastal Stream to determine which team will proceed to the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) play-offs.
Dates Eleven were relegated from the SSFD at the end of the 2016 season along with Hardap Boys from Kalkrand.
