WINDHOEK, Aug. 25 — The Chinese Embassy in Namibia held a business networking reception on August 23, 2023, to promote cooperation between Chinese and Namibian companies.
The reception was hosted by Ambassador Zhao Weiping and attended by senior Namibian government officials, representatives of Chinese and Namibian companies, and other guests.
In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao highlighted the strong economic ties between China and Namibia. He noted that China is now the largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) and the second-largest trading partner of Namibia.
Ambassador Zhao also expressed China’s willingness to import more Namibian products. He said that China has been importing live Namibian oysters and lobsters for a long time and started importing Namibian beef since 2019. He said that China is also interested in importing Namibian deep-sea red crabs, abalone, mutton, grapes, and frozen lobster and oyster.
Ambassador Zhao also spoke about China’s development assistance to Namibia. He said that China has provided some development assistance to Namibia, including the construction of the 2B section of Windhoek’s new airport road and the expansion and upgrading of 4 schools in Kavango West and Zambezi Regions.
He said that China is also willing to provide more development assistance to Namibia in the future.
The reception was an opportunity for Chinese and Namibian companies to network and discuss potential business opportunities. It was also an opportunity for the Chinese Embassy to reaffirm its commitment to promoting economic cooperation between China and Namibia.
The reception was a success and was well-attended by both Chinese and Namibian guests. It was a positive step towards further strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.
