OTJIWARONGO, 16 OCT – Three men in court on stock theft charges involving 12 heads of cattle were on Monday denied bail and remanded in custody at Okakarara.
The accused; Tjaripara Tjihara, 35; Uanongovandu Kuverua, 44, and 32-year-old Kevin Kasuto were denied bail by the Okakarara Magistrate’s Court on grounds they already have pending stock theft cases.
The trio was arrested on this new alleged offence while on bail.
It is alleged that they stole the cattle last week Tuesday, valued at N.dollars 84 500 from a village in the Ombujondjupa area at an unknown time.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa that Tjihara, Kuverua and Kasuto that Tuesday drove the livestock to Omaumbandjou village, also in the Okakarara Constituency.
“We managed to recover nine of the 12 stolen livestock last week Thursday. Two carcasses were found at Grootfontein that day, where it was already sold to a client,” Mbeha said.
The recovered meat and nine livestock have been returned to the rightful owner.
The accused were arrested after a tipoff from the public.
The three men are expected to return to court for this case on 21 November 2018.
Police investigations in both the new and previous stock theft cases continue.
