Two teenagers who died in Maltahöhe crash identified

REHOBOTH, 25 JUL  – The two boys who died in an accident on the bridge outside Maltahöhe on Tuesday, have been identified.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Wednesday the deceased have been identified as Heinrich Abraham, 18, and Morney Mungunda, 14.
According to police reports, Abraham and Mungunda had been occupants in a Toyota Corolla driven by an unlicensed driver.
“The driver lost control over the vehicle. It smashed into the rails of the bridge and threw out all occupants, killing two on the scene and seriously injuring the remaining three, including the driver,” Clay said.
Rinory Pieters, the 18-year-old driver; David Abraham, 16, and three-year-old Gevien Swartbooi were injured in the accident and taken to the Mariental State Hospital.
The four older boys were learners at Daweb Secondary School.
A case of culpable homicide and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence has been opened and investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, the driver of the minibus involved in a head-on collision that led to the death of three people on the Kalkrand-Mariental road Friday, succumbed to his injuries in the Katutura State Hospital on Tuesday.
He was identified as Gerhardt Jacob Rooi, 58.
Clay told this news agency over the weekend an Audi that was headed to Windhoek from Lüderitz allegedly swerved into the minibus’s lane and they collided head-on.
“Four people in the Audi were trapped and had to be removed using the Jaws of Life,” he said.
The three deceased were identified as the driver of the Audi, Johan Forbes; his passenger Johannes Angolo and the 34-year-old Fransisco Fabian Kaptein, who was a passenger in the minibus.
