Rundu Chiefs promises to bounce back to NPL

WINDHOEK, 08 MAY  – Recently relegated Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit, Rundu Chiefs Football Club, has promised to bounce back to the country’s elite league.
The Rundu-based team finished 15th out of 16 teams, with 27 points from 30 games at the end of the 2017/18 season.
Speaking to Nampa on Sunday after their 7-1 defeat by Black Africa in Windhoek, Mathew Kanyaso, the club’s stand-in coach, said they are positive of making a comeback in the 2019/20 NPL season.
“Rundu Chiefs is a big team and it has a lot of supporters as well as members who will help the team regroup and come back the Premier League.”
He added that the North East First Division, where they will now play, now has two pools and such a system will help them gain promotion to the NPL faster.
“We are not going to have those long travels in the First Division which costs a lot of money. The pool system will help us win our games and then fight it out for the NPL play-offs with the other pool winner,” he said.
Kanyaso added that his club will release most of its players and look for “fresh blood” who will help them fight for promotion.
Meanwhile, the 2018 National First Division Streams have not kicked off yet after the initial start set for April due to administrative issues within the three streams.
The streams requested N$ 1 million each to run their affairs but the Namibia Football Association, as custodians of that divisions, is only willing to fund each stream with N$ 600 000.
