Oshakati, 07 Aug. — Police in Ondangwa launched an operation dubbed “Lungameni Phase 1” to rid the area of crime.
The operation kicked off at around 18h00 on 5 August 2022, and ended at 04h00 the following day, with 107 members from various divisions, sub-divisions, stations and units in the region taking part.
The operation covered the Ondangwa policing area.
Oshana regional commander Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, urged police officers to always provide the public with police numbers so they can call anytime they will need help.
He said the operation went as planned and 38 tickets for N$40 000 were issued for various traffic offences including road unworthiness of vehicles, overloading, vehicles that were not licenced and driving under influence.
Police also confiscated a number of weapons from people including an unlicensed firearm, 13 knives, 10 best whiskeys, a knob Kerrie, a warthog tooth and five packs of cigarettes.
Six bartenders were warned because they were trading in liquor using expired licenses.
