Orlando Pirates and Truck win Tjauira General Investment tourney

WINDHOEK, 24 JUL  – Orlando Pirates football team from Okozonduzu and Windhoek’s Truck netball team won the first edition of the Tjauira General Investment Tournament in the capital on Sunday.
To be crowned champions in the football competition, Orlando Pirates beat their opponents Okauua Rovers 4-2 on penalties at the Khomasdal Stadium.
Truck beat Aminuis-based Super Star 44 to 25 to win the netball trophy.
In an interview with Nampa on Tuesday, Orlando Pirates team manager Veneruru Mieze said he was delighted with his players’ performance.
“We prepared well for this tournament and my players showed solidarity throughout,” Mieze said.
He also commended the Tjauira General Investment management for the overall organisation of the knock-out tournament.
On her part, Truck team captain Tjaa Kavari said she was happy to have won the cup and commended her fellow players on their performance.
“We trained hard, this team has been taking part in many competitions and that motivated us to do this well,” she said.
The total prize money for the competition was N.dollars 30 000.
The winning netball team took home N.dollars 5 000, while runners-up Super Star received N.dollars 2 500.
The losing semi-finalists, Orunarongue from Otjinene and Okombomi-based Renamo Bucks both received N.dollars 1 250.
For football, Orlando Pirates won N.dollars 10 000 and Okauua Rovers took home N.dollars 5 000.
Semi-finalists Khomas NamPol and Ovitoto-based Okatjasorui received N.dollars 2 500 each.
Erica Tjauira, the owner of the Tjauaira General Investment, commended the teams that participated.
“I believe these types of competitions contribute to the development of sports in our country and also keep our youth busy,” she added.
Tjauira General Investment will host another tournament in Windhoek on 01 September 2018.
