LAGOS, July 15 — Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff Faruk Yahaya on Friday met with the visiting Chief of Staff of Liberian Armed Forces Charles Johnson in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, agreeing to advance bilateral military cooperation.
During the meeting in Abuja on Friday, Yahaya pledged to continue to uphold the ties that have existed between the two armies, and the Nigerian army would provide more training opportunities for the Liberian military in its training institutions.
Yahaya said many serving principal staff officers of the Nigerian army had served in the UN-led peacekeeping mission in Liberia between 2003 and 2018, adding that doors were open for more collaboration and support.
For his part, Johnson said during the meeting that Liberia has enjoyed great support from the Nigerian military, and thanked the Nigerian army for the role it played in bringing peace and stability to Liberia, as well as developing its military.
He said his visit was to seek more support and cooperation from the Nigerian army to enable the Liberian military to develop its capacity. (Xinhua)
