NCCS Pro Cycling team ready to compete in Tour de Limpopo

WINDHOEK, 23 Apr- The NCCS Pro Cycling team is ready to compete in the Tour de Limpopo, team captain Chipopeni ‘Fifi’ Kashululu said on Sunday.
The NNCS Pro Cycling team will compete in the inaugural Tour de Limpopo in South Africa from Monday until Thursday.
The team members are Kashululu, Jafet Amukushu, Marckernzy Eiseb, Xavier Renzo Papo, Danzel Dekoe and Gouws Wynandt.
Speaking to Nampa via WhatsApp, Kashululu said the team went for their second training session and were feeling better than when they first trained a day after their arrival on Friday.
“We had a very long journey to Limpopo and the riders complained of being tired, but after going for our second training today we started feeling better after 20 kilometres of riding. I know we will start well,” he said.
The race will be held in stages, comprising the International Cycling Union (UCI) Africa Tour 2.2 stage elite race and a veteran’s tour that will follow the same routes as the elite race.
It is expected to start in Polokwane, heading east to the town of Tzaneen, covering a total distance of 427,6 kilometres (km), with big climbs expected during the stages.
Kashululu said the race will be very fast in the opening stages, but they are hoping to have at least two of their riders going with any team that will attack.
Stage two of the competition will see the best mountain climber do well and the team captain is positive that they have riders who can show their counterparts a thing or two.
“Our goal is to compete well and have riders in the top 50 of the opening stage. We are also hoping for a better finish in the top 10 or 20 if we play our cards right during the three days of cycling,” said Kashululu.
Jacob Kiyola, NCCS Pro Cycling’s communications manager, told this news agency on Sunday competing in this race will help their riders gain much-needed experience of international competitions as well as get UCI points, which will help them when qualifying for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
