WINDHOEK, 01 NOV – The national Media Football Team is ready to compete in Maseru, Lesotho against two social football teams of that country on Saturday.
Established in 2007, the media team comprises current and former journalists, whose ideals are fostering relations and collaboration among members of the media fraternity and enhancing unity.
The team will lock horns against ‘Team 20’ and Lesotho Defence Force Masters.
Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, former captain and one of the founding members of the team, John Ekongo said their aim is to win while at the same time fostering friendships.
“Central to doing this, we want to connect with other journalists as well as brothers in the region through sports.”
The team has in the past toured Botswana, which became a yearly destination since 2007, while in 2017 they toured Cape Town, South Africa in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
“We now have a new destination this year and we want to find other journalists whom we can work with in the future,” said Ekongo.
The media team also visited Rundu and Karibib earlier this year on its national tour.
Their trip to Lesotho is made possible with the help of Air Namibia, Dinapama Manufacturing and Supplies, Coca-Cola Namibia, CSS Tactical Security and Power Line Africa.
The team departs for Lesotho on Friday and is expected back in the country on Sunday.
