POLOKWANE, 02 JUN – Brave Warriors head coach Ricardo Mannetti has named the starting 11 for his team’s match against Zambia in the first quarter-final game of the 2018 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup.
The match takes place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to Nampa just before the last team talk, Mannetti said he expects Zambia to play a possession-based game and to dominate through the ball as usual.
“We want to do the same, dominate through the ball, for the 90 minutes. We will fight for possession as well. The team that keeps the ball and creates chances in the right area will win the game and Namibia has what it takes to do that,” he said.
In goals, Max Mbaeva got the nod, with Vitapi Ngaruka, Riaan Hanamub, Teberius Lombard, Danzil Haoseb, Charles Hambira, captain Ronald Ketjijere, Absalom Iimbondi, Dynamo Fredericks, Deon Hoto, and Panduleni Nekundi completing the starting 11.
“We will play 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 formations during the game, depending on the situation. We want to dominate the game,” said Mannetti as he explained his selection of the starting line-up.
He further said the preparations had gone well and he was happy they had secured the services of the two Jomo Cosmos players, Haoseb and Ananias Gebhardt in time for the match.
“Platinum Stars Football Club did not release Wangu Gome for this game but he will join us as soon as he is done with the promotion, relegation playoffs,” Mannetti said.
Captain Ketjijere said the team has responded well to the new tactics introduced by the technical team.
“We have identified their weakness and made plans on how we want to approach the game. We are ready and we expect our opponents to be ready too,” he said.
Donavan Kanjaa and Ikuaterua Hoveka are the two players on standby to cover for any withdrawal and will be with the team in Polokwane.
Namibia and Zambia have met five times in the Cosafa Cup, with each team winning one match.
They have also drawn three times.
