Windhoek, Oct. 22 – Physical education teacher TheophelusIsak is helping pupils of Tobias Hainyeko primary school in Okuryangava, Windhoek to develop their sports talent.
With statistics showing that the rate of school dropouts is increasing in cities, and these dropouts turn to crime, drugs and alcohol abuse and end up in jail Theophelus decided to nurture their talent.
He said the boys were motivated by Namibian national team players such as Peter Shalulile who make headlines in soccer and a living from the sport.
“I decided to assist the boys because I have seen so many talents going to waste when I was a young boy playing soccer. So I want to develop the young players so they can take a career in sport,” Isak said.
“It helps the boys not only in developing physical fitness but in most cases these guys are now more active in school and are being exposed to so many sports disciplines,” he further said.
“Growing up I only see my people drinking with no purpose in life and Isak has taught me how to be focused in school and in the outside world as he teaches us discipline,” said one of the players.
The Tobias Hainyeko boys will meet Steenkamp in the Under-13 Mayors league final, at Khomasdal today and the boys were training hard the whole week in preparation for the finals.
