Geingob toasts to healthy Namibia-China relations

WINDHOEK, 31 MAR – President Hage Geingob said bilateral cooperation between Namibia and China have evolved into a thriving partnership since the two countries established diplomatic relations.
Geingob made this statement when he proposed a toast at the welcoming banquet of his state visit to China on Thursday.
A media statement issued Saturday by State House quoted the Head of State as saying the Namibia-China relations have been deepening and expanding far and wide in the domains of political dialogue, economic cooperation and cultural exchanges, resulting in the continued enhancing of friendship and trust between their peoples.
“Our partnership has yielded remarkable results and continues to make a positive impact on the development of our country,” he said.
Investment and cooperation in infrastructure; manufacturing; energy; information and communication technology; and human capacity development are some of the areas Geingob said that continue to yield telling benefits by contributing to the improvement of the living standards of many Namibian citizens.
“The inroads we have made in enhancing our relationship over the past several decades is testimony to the all-weather and time-tested friendship that exists between China and Namibia,” he stated.
Geingob also took the opportunity to reaffirm Namibia’s solid commitment to further entrench the deep foundations of its historic friendship with China, for the mutual development, progress and prosperity of the two countries.
He then proposed a toast to the health of Chinese President Xi Jinging, to the prosperity of the people of China and Namibia, and to continued growth of the thriving relations between the two countries.
Governmental relations were first established the day after Namibia’s independence on 21 March 1990, but relations with Namibian independence movements date back to the 1960s.
Geingob left Namibia on Tuesday for China.
His delegation consists of First Lady Monica Geingos, a few Cabinet ministers, senior government officials and businesspeople from various sectors.
He is expected to conclude the visit on Tuesday.
