RUNDU, 24 MAY – An earthquake measuring about 4,6 on the Richter scale was recorded approximately 35 kilometres north-west of Kamanjab in the Kunene Region on Thursday.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy said in a statement issued Thursday the earthquake was recorded at 09h08 by three local seismic stations and preliminary analyses were performed on the recorded data.
“Three phase readings for initial calculations were picked by the Geological Survey for Windhoek, Ariamsvlei and Aus and show that the occurrence time was 09:08:21 local time and it lasted for about 15 seconds,” the statement said.
Since 2017, there have been reports of increased earthquake activities in the Kamanjab area, especially at Anker settlement. In
March this year, an earthquake measuring about 4,0 on the Richter scale was recorded approximately 80 kilometres north-west of Kamanjab.
