Katima Mulilo, Aug. 4 – The Botswana Defence Force continues threatening and intimidating the people of the Zambezi region.
According to the residents of Kabulabula village, speed boats with full military gear are periodically spotted cruising on the Namibian close to the village.
This has left the people in fear of being shot at or assaulted by Botswana soldiers as this is not the first time such incidents have happened.
Many Namibians living close to the border lost their lives through the actions of BDF soldiers.
In 2020, the people of the Zambezi were livid after the Nchindo brothers were gunned down by trigger-happy Botswana defence force members.
Statistics compiled by the pressure group Zambezi Lives Matters show that more than 39 people lost their lives at the hands of the brutal Botswana Defence Force, with the youngest victim on the list being a nine-year-old boy from Lizauli village in Judea Lyabbloma constituency.
This incident has dispelled Botswana’s claims that those killed were poachers as questions have been raised on how a nine-year-old can go out poaching.
Namibians have condemned the killing of Namibians, especially along the Chobe river, the parliamentary standing committee on Defence and Security that was in Zambezi Region last week was warned by the residents that should government fail to protect the residents of the Zambezi, residents will have no choice but to protect themselves.
Although the two countries have signed a border treaty, thousands of Namibians in the Zambezi region have condemned the treaty and called for it to be nullified.
