YAOUNDE, Nov. 5 — At least four Cameroonian soldiers were killed on Wednesday in an ambush by separatist fighters in the country’s war-torn English-speaking region of Northwest, security sources confirmed.
The soldiers were on a routine patrol in the Bambili locality of the region when separatist fighters ambushed and opened fire on them, according to an official in the region, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“We are pursuing the separatist terrorists who committed this grievous act. Order has been restored in the locality where the attack took place,” the official told Xinhua by phone.
Separatists released a video of the attack on social media, displaying weapons seized during the assault. Cameroon’s Anglophone regions of Northwest and Southwest have been experiencing an armed separatist conflict since 2017, with separatists seeking to create a new nation. (Xinhua)
