Five regions want to host 2019 and 2020 newspaper cup

WINDHOEK, 12 JUL  – A total of five regions have submitted expressions of interest to host the 2019 and 2020 annual The Namibian Newspaper Cup.
In a media release made available to Nampa by the Namibia Football Association on Thursday, //Kharas, Hardap and Oshana have shown interest to host the 2019 edition.
The //Kharas Region submitted a bid for the 2020 edition as well, alongside Kavango East and Omaheke.
According to the statement, the five regions will now have to submit definitive bids including the host agreements with the towns, local authorities and regional governors by Friday.
This will be followed by a presentation to the organising committee on 25 July, after which the announcement of the successful bids for the 2019 and 2020 tournaments will be made.
Some of the criteria for hosting the tournament are that the host town must have a stadium with an artificial or natural grass pitch and a minimum capacity for 2 000 people, suitable lighting for night games and a public address system.
Medical standby for the duration of the tournament, catering and security are also amongst the conditions for hosting.
The Namibian Newspaper Cup is an under-20 football tournament for the top male U-20 players in the 14 regions of Namibia.
In 2018, the women’s U-20 netball tournament was introduced to run concurrently with the football.
