WINDHOEK, 12 JUL – The Namibia Football Association (NFA) and Build It Namibia have announced a youth developmental partnership that will see an under 13 seven-a-side football tournament taking place in the northern parts of the country.
In a media release availed to this news agency on Thursday, the NFA said the tournament will eventually be spread out to other parts of the country as well.
The first phase was initially completed last year, where 16 Windhoek-based schools took part in a one day tournament at the NFA’s technical centre.
Tobias Hainyeko Primary School was crowned the overall winners of the tournament and received make-over material worth of N$ 20 000 courtesy of Build It Namibia.
In Oshana, the initiative will see 16 schools are expected to take part in a seven-a-side tournament for under 13 female and male players.
The statement quoted Herman van Schalkwyk, Retail Operations Manager of Build It Namibia as saying they are looking forward to this year’s tournament.
“The tournament was a huge success and we plan on using the ideas that were implemented last year to improve this year’s events, especially in terms of involving the different media houses to attend and publish the event,” he said.
Van Schalkwyk added that they have been hosting these tournaments for a number of years now without the involvement of the NFA, but that they realised the importance of the partnership last year.
The tournament will be held on the 14th July 2018 and the opening ceremony is slated for 07h00 at Oshana Hardware.
It will be followed by a parade to Eluwa Special School, where the action will kick off as from 08h00.
In terms of the prizes, there will be a guaranteed shopping voucher worth N.dollars 5 000 for the winning school, as well a soccer kit with a trophy.
The runner up will receive N.dollars 2 000, while the school hosting the tournament will get N.dollars 3 000.
The player of the tournament will walk away with N.dollars 1 000.
Oshakati and Ongwediva are scheduled to host the next Build It tournaments in the near future.
The participating schools are:
Charles Anderson Combined School, Shapwa Primary School, Oshikango Combined School, Shinime Primary School, Oshihenge Combined School, Ondelekelama Primary School, Eluwa Special School, International Primary School, Liberty Heritage Primary School, Hashiyana Combined School, Eheke Primary School, Kleine Kuppe Primary School, Golden Maggy Primary School, Oshakati-West Primary School, Enguwantale Combined School and Maurits Devenish Primary School.
