OTJIWARONGO, 25 JUN – A cleaner at Karundu Primary School in Otjiwarongo has been arrested after food stolen from the school’s hostel kitchen was recovered from his house on Sunday.
The 28-year-old cleaner and his 27-year-old accomplice were arrested after beef and game carcasses, as well as boxes of chicken, fish and cheese were recovered from his house by members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), who were accompanied by teachers from the school.
NamPol’s spokesperson in the region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Monday told Nampa teachers and learners noticed that one of the kitchen windows at the Karundu Primary School hostel was broken.
They then called the police, who found that the food items were missing from the kitchen storerooms.
The police and teachers tracked the suspects’ footprints to the house in the Ombili informal settlement.
It is suspected that the two men broke into the kitchen Saturday night.
“Carcasses were found at his house and some items were recovered from the houses of people they sold it to that same night,” said Mbeha.
The value of the stolen items is estimated at over N.dollars 10 000.
The two suspects are expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations continue.
