RUNDU, 18 MAY – The Rundu Town Council (RTC) and the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the tourism sector in the town of Rundu.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RTC, Romanus Haironga signed on behalf of the council while the CEO of NTB Digu //Naobeb signed on behalf of that board.
In his overview of the agreement Haironga explained that the two parties will mainly collaborate and have mutual benefits in terms of tourism as well as coming up with marketing strategies to market the town and the NTB.
He added that through the understanding, both parties are expected to put resources together, human or financial, in order to implement everything that is stipulated in the marketing strategies they will come up with.
“This can be the developing of marketing materials, brochures and website linking the two bodies together so that they can be marketed both locally and internationally,” noted Haironga.
On his part, //Naobeb indicated that the MoU is of importance as Rundu is positioned as a gateway to the Four Rivers Tourism Route which is part of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Area TFCA and Omulunga Palm route which it can tap from.
He stressed that the MoU demonstrates a common understanding and the desire to promote tourism as it significantly contributes to the economic engine of growth.
“This MoU, amongst others, signifies the two parties’ agreement to encourage awareness about this destination and in order to spread tourism benefits widely through the exchange of promotional materials on tourism,” said //Naobeb.
“I am certain that this MoU that we are signing today will mark the beginning of what we hope will be a long and fruitful collaboration and will increase mutual understanding between the two parties,” concluded //Naobeb.
The MoU was signed as per the council’s resolution taken in 2016 after a proposal by NTB to enter into an understanding in order for the two parties to strengthen the tourism industry in the town.
