LUANDA, July 24 — Angola’s National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), TotalEnergies, and the contractor group of Block 17/06 on Wednesday announced the start of oil production from the Begonia Project.
Situated approximately 150 km off the Angolan coast, Begonia links two blocks, Block 17 and Block 17/06, at water depths ranging from 800 to 1,200 meters.
The first oil from Begonia will be processed through the FPSO Pazflor located in Block 17, offshore in Angola’s Zaire Province.
The development connects five oil wells to the existing subsea infrastructure at the FPSO Pazflor. With a total investment of 850 million U.S. dollars, the project is expected to add 30,000 barrels per day to Pazflor’s production output.
“This type of project is crucial for sustaining Angola’s oil production by optimizing existing assets and resources.
We remain committed to providing operators and partners with the best opportunities to enhance their activities and increase efficiency across Angola’s oil sector,” said Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas Diamantino Azevedo.
ANPG Chairman Paulino Jeronimo noted that Begonia represents an important advancement in Angola’s upstream operations.
“This is the first inter-block development in Angola, with a strong local content component. The project involved 1.3 million work hours, of which 70 percent were completed in Angola,” he added. (Xinhua)
