WINDHOEK, 30 APR – A group of 16 Namibian kickboxers won 13 gold; nine silver and seven bronze medals at the first African Continental Martial Arts Games held in Gaborone, Botswana on Friday and Saturday.
The athletes competed in different weight categories and different age groups, ranging from 7 to 38 years at the tournament, which fell under the auspices of the World Martial Arts Games Committee.
Raymond Bowe, who was the youngest athlete at the competition at seven years old, also won bronze.
The other athletes who travelled to Botswana are Rohan Kotze, James Goagoseb, Samuel Bumbel, Hugo Jones, Llewellyn de Jager, Giano Alcock, Dawn Spangenberg, Stephanie Schoonbee, Delano Müller, Jan Willem van Zyl, Mia Kittler, Anco Snyman, Xanthe Snyman, Sensei Martin Gunther and Sensei Lesley Hoaeb.
They were selected during the Desert Storm Kickboxing event held in Walvis Bay by the Kickboxing Federation of Namibia last year.
The team is expected back in the country on Monday.
