KEETMANSHOOP, 15 JUN – Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Peya Mushelenga on Thursday addressed leaders of //Kharas in Keetmanshoop as part of his familiarisation visit to the region.
He explained that he is carrying out familiarisation visits to all regions to acquaint himself with projects put in place under his ministry and the challenges faced by local authorities and regional councils, as well as to inform them of his expectations from them.
Mushelenga was appointed Minister of Urban and Rural Development in February.
He said office bearers must familiarise themselves with the government policies put in place as these are instruments aimed at guiding them to deliver what the government wants delivered to the public.
“How do you expect to work and deliver what is expected of you if you are not aware of what is expected from you? These policies are there to guide us do our work,” Mushelenga said.
He also told the councillor to work together regardless of their political affiliation.
“You might not like each other or the mayor, governor or other political party, but I am sure you like Namibia so let us work together, serving the best interests of the country,” he said.
The chief executive officers of the various town and villages councils spoke of projects they have completed, pending capital projects, projects planned for the current financial year and the challenges they face.
