TRIPOLI, April 28– Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah said here on Tuesday that 60,000 people in the country have been vaccinated against COVID-19 since the start of its vaccination campaign.
Libya has received more than 400,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine and many more doses will arrive soon, Dbeibah told a cabinet meeting.
Some 107,000 low-income Libyan families have been provided with financial support during the holy month of Ramadan, the prime minister added.
Dbeibah proposed the establishment of funds for rebuilding the Libyan cities damaged by years of armed conflict, including Tripoli and the eastern cities of Benghazi and Darna.
“It is important for all displaced people from all cities, without exception, to return home,” Dbeibah said.
He added that most of the country’s divided institutions have been united, “which must be achieved so that we can hold elections” later this year.
The main task of Dbeibah’s Government of National Unity, selected by the UN-backed Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), is to prepare for the upcoming elections as agreed by the LPDF. Xinhua
