WINDHOEK, SEPT. 30 – Walter “The Executioner” Kautondokwa may have an opportunity to fight Demetrius Andrade on the 20th October 2018 if Billy Saunders is stripped-off his WBO Middleweight World Title.
The boxing world is still reeling in shock after it emerged that current WBO Middleweight champion, Billy “Joe” Saunders had failed a drug test for a banned substance. Saunders tested positive for oxilofrine, a stimulant, back in August in Sheffield. The test was conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, contracted to oversee drug testing.
Prior to the failed drug test, Saunders was scheduled to face WBO’s unbeaten and number-one rated Demetrius Andrade on 20 October at the TD Garden in Boston.
Saunders, and the rest of the world will know about his fate on 8 October, when the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission will sit for a hearing to decide whether to liscence Saunders or not.
If they decide not to license him, the fight will go on however, with Andrade vs Kautondokwa, who is the next highest ranked opponent and number 2.
Promoter Nestor Tobias said: “We are well aware of the current uncertainty regarding Saunders’ fight. I can confirm that we have been in talks with Matchroom USA, Andrade’s Promoters, and agreed to fight Andrade in the event that Saunders get stripped of his title.”
Tobias added that this presented a massive opportunity for Kautondokwa, but with regards to his boxer’s preparedness should the fight continue, Tobias said he would have liked more time.
Said Tobias: “We would of course have liked more time to prepare, but thankfully Kautondokwa is committed to the gym and therefore in top shape. It is a pity that the Commission will only sit 8 days before the fight, but in the meantime we will start preparations as if the fight was confirmed, which is of course not the most ideal situation, but an opportunity we cannot ignore. The MTC Sunshine camp is excited about the possible opportunity.”
The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has already confirmed that if Saunders will not be licensed by the Massachusetts State Commission, they will strip him of his world title. – email@example.com
