OTJIWARONGO, 07 JUN – Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa on Wednesday expressed shock over the teacher who was arrested and appeared in court this week at Otjiwarongo for dealing in cannabis.
Hanse-Himarwa, who is on a two-day familiarisation visit in the Otjozondjupa Region, addressed regional school principals of private and Government schools at Otjiwarongo, where she expressed disappointment and shock to have heard of a teacher arrested and appearing in court on drug charges.
Hanse-Himarwa was referring to the arrest of a 40-year-old female teacher of the Monica Geingos Junior Secondary School, who was arrested on Thursday for allegedly dealing in and/or possession of cannabis with a street value of N.dollars 18 200.
Roselta Serolta Hanos and her 54-year-old accomplice, Simon Josob were arrested at a house in the Orwetoveni residential area during a police operation.
They appeared before Otjiwarongo Magistrate, Eduard Kesslau on the charges on Monday, where Hanos was granted bail of N.dollars 2 000.
“It is very scary, uncalled for and shocking to read such a story in the newspapers,” said the education minister.
Hanse-Himarwa said even though the issue remains an allegation until such a time a competent court of law will pass a ruling, teachers who are in constant contact with learners should at all times refrain from dealing with all types of drugs.
She then called on school principals to always act fast and if possible, remove such elements out of school territories.
She also urged school principals to be resolute and never fear to take action against problem teachers or learners.
