Northern NBF Committee supports Erundu School

OSHAKATI, 07JUN  – The Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) Northern Committee converted the basketball court of Erundu Secondary School in Oshakati and donated the basketball court backboards and hoops, worth N.dollars 11 000, to the school.
The handover of the converted court to the school management was held at the school on Tuesday.
The committee’s spokesperson, Louisa Plaisir told Nampa that up to 150 Grade 5-7 children from the school and elsewhere in Oshakati are using the rehabilitated Erundu Court for basketball training.
“Via the official handover, we would like to promote the practice sessions in Oshakati,” Plaisir pointed out.
Children of the school play basketball during physical education time, while those from within the Oshakati community are catered for in the afternoon.
Acting principal of Erundu Secondary School, Ismael Shapange said the court was revamped at a time when it was worn out.
Shapange promised that the school will take proper care of the facility and that it will be put to good use and to the benefit of basketball-loving children in the area.
Speaking during the handover event, the northern region basketball coordinator, Elifas Haifidi described the game as a very good sport which is fitness-oriented.
Haifidi noted that children are kept away from social problems through involving them in sport activities. The NBF Northern Committee also has a basketball school at Ongwediva and it aims to promote basketball in northern Namibia where the sport code previously has not enjoyed popularity.
