REHOBOTH, 28 OCT – A case of murder was opened by the police in the Hardap Region after a man was allegedly stabbed to death by a 23-year-old suspect in Mariental on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Simon Valombola.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay, told Nampa on Sunday the incident occurred around 16h55 at the four-way stop next to the Roman Catholic Church in Aimablaagte.
“It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the deceased with a knife on the left side of the neck after a quarrel over a girlfriend escalated. He ran away, but was arrested later,” Clay said.
Valombola was rushed to the Mariental State Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
His next of kin have been informed of his death and police investigations continue.
In an unrelated incident, also in Mariental, a 23-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his cousin in the head with a screwdriver on Saturday.
Clay said the incident occurred around 18h40 in Aimablaagte.
“It is alleged that the suspect, who is a cousin to the victim, stabbed him with a screwdriver in the head after an argument at home. The screwdriver stuck was in his skull,” Clay said.
The victim was rushed to the Mariental State Hospital, but was transferred to Windhoek due to the seriousness of the injuries.
The suspect is known, but his name cannot be revealed as he is set to appear in court on Monday.
