Walvis Bay, Aug. 3 — A 19-year-old man from Kuisebmund was shot dead when he and another man were allegedly found trying to steal from a house in Khomashochland street, Kuisebmond, in Walvis Bay at about 01h00 on Tuesday.
This was confirmed by police spokesperson Inspector Ileni Shapumba in a statement that the house owner was asleep in his house when he was allegedly awakened by footsteps on the roof.
He allegedly tiptoed to the kitchen to investigate and saw through the window, a man inside his yard. On realizing that he had been seen, the man allegedly dropped a washing basin belonging to the house owner that was kept outside the house.
The alleged intruder allegedly climbed onto the roof of the house in an attempt to jump out of the yard.
According to the police, the house owner allegedly fired some shots with his 9mm pistol in the direction of the alleged intruder and one of the bullets struck him in the lower part of the abdomen and he was later found dead on the roof.
The deceased was allegedly found with stolen items in his trouser pocket.
“It is further suspected that the deceased was with another unknown person who was already on the roof of the suspect’s house, to whom he was passing stolen items to throw into the neighbouring yard,” said Shapumba.
The body was taken to Walvis Bay Police mortuary for postmortem.
Although the 44-year-old homeowner has not been arrested, his firearm was confiscated.
The house owner will allegedly open a case of theft.
The deceased’s identity cannot be disclosed as his next of kin has not yet been informed of his death.
Police investigations are continuing.
