Katima Mulilo, Aug. 3 — The Government does not have money to pay civil servants a salary hike.
This is according to SWAPO secretary for labour Loide Kasingo, who was adding to the choruses of other national leaders as the country awaits the modalities being agreed upon between the Government and the recognized trade unions the Napwu and Nantu.
Executive director in the ministry of communication and technology, Mbeauta Uandjarakana was also recently quoted as saying workers are adults, and parents with children going to school.
“They have dependents who rely on what they consider to be a meagre salary that has carried all of us for a number of years it has been able to sustain us,” he said.
However civil servants are already in the mood for the strike despite threats that the no-work-no-pay principle will be applied.
A civil servant who spoke to NDN on condition of anonymity said only an agreement for a pay rise will make workers listen. threats and other excuses from the Government won’t deter them from going on strike.
The employee is an administration officer at Katima Mulilo state hospital said despite nurses and doctors being classified as essential workers, the administration staff is not classified that way.
“There is no way nurses and doctors can perform their duties with the support staff, such clerks and cleaners and other directorates,” he said.
