AFRODITE BEACH, 08 DEC – The Namibian Police Force’s Erongo Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Nelumbu has warned that NamPol will not tolerate any traffic violations this festive season.
Nelumbu was speaking during a media briefing at the Yanni Savva Police Station between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on Friday, where he said especially those who overload their vehicles, will not be spared.
“This year, we have set up both mobile and permanent road blocks in all towns in the region, including at Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Karibib, to deter crime and prevent accidents,” he said.
He added that the police will also conduct random patrols and other crime prevention operations and increase their visibility during the festive period.
Nelumbu spoke of the accident which claimed two people’s lives on Tuesday on the Karibib-Usakos road.
“As saddening as this may be, this accident should serve as an alert to others to avoid adding to the accident statistics during this period.”
The commissioner warned drivers and passengers to prepare well for their journeys, to stick to the stipulated speed limits and respect other rules of the road.
“They should also see to it that their vehicles are fit for the road and should report unbecoming behaviour on the road, to the police,” he added.
On a different platform, Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council, Hafeni Ndemula also urged travellers to drive cautiously to avoid accidents during the festive season. – NAMPA
